(Re)treats / Grants

If you're a playwright from the Pacific Northwest looking for a place to write, or have a play being workshopped or premiered abroad, we may be able to assit.

Writing (Re)treats

Rain City Projects occasionally hosts writing events. Participants bring a laptop or notebook, grab a hot beverage and sustenance, join other playwrights around a table for a group writing session. We provided writing prompts, but some writers work independently on their own plays. It's an excuse to write, sure, but we all need deadlines.

Beginning in 2017, Rain City Projects partenered with the National Winter Playwrights Retreat in Creede, Colorado. It's a lovely spot, a bit hard to get to, with wonderful cabins and hot tubs, everything a playwright needs to fuel writing a larger project. We offer free travel. They offer the isolated, tranquil location. If you're an established Pacific Northwest playwright, contact us about applying.

Sweetness Grants

Rain City Projects offers travel grants for playwrights to attend rehearsals and premiere performances of their works. These grants are designed a) to encourage theatres to include playwrights in the rehearsal process and b) to encourage playwrights to use the rehearsal process for their writing; to write final drafts in the context of production.

Playwrights must have a connection with the Pacific Northwest (Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, British Columbia) to be considered for a Sweetness Grant.
